DISC assessment online: how the AXIS360 assessment works
Twenty-four questions, about eight minutes, no right answers.
The assessment
The assessment has 24 questions and takes about 8 minutes. Each question shows four statements. You pick the one that is most like you and the one that is least like you. There is no pass or fail. The questions are shown in a randomised order.
Because you must choose rather than rate, it is harder to answer “very much like me” to everything.
The trade-off. Choices are relative. The profile shows which styles you favour over your own other styles, not how much of each you have compared with other people. Two people can have the same shape and very different intensities of behaviour. That is why a profile is a starting point for a conversation, and why comparisons between people, and role “fit”, should be read as indicative.
What the scores show
Results are shown in two complementary ways:
- Share of profile. The four styles add up to 100%. This describes the shape of a style: how natural behaviour is distributed across D, i, S and C.
- Strength, 0 to 100. How strongly each style shows up on its own scale. This is the figure behind words such as “high” or “low”, and behind the “out of 100” scores in the reports.
The reports go on to describe the primary and secondary style, behaviour under pressure, and how the person tends to communicate, decide, lead and handle conflict. See the reports.
How the quality of answers is checked
The platform looks at how a response was given: for example, answers completed implausibly fast, or the same style picked over and over. It then reports how much weight to put on the profile. This check never changes the scores. It only tells the reader how confident to be.
What a score is compared with
Some reports show how a score compares with a group (a percentile, or a fit against a role). We say where the comparison group comes from:
- Reference groups are drawn from published DISC literature. They are indicative. We did not measure them ourselves.
- Our own data replaces a reference group only once there are at least 30 assessments for that group. Below that, percentiles are not shown at all, rather than shown unreliably.
Who can take it, and how
An organisation, consultant or distributor sends participants a personal link by email, a campaign link for a group, or places the assessment on its own website. Participants do not need to create an account. The interface is available in English, Arabic, Bahasa Malaysia and Hindi.
What happens afterwards
The person receives their reports and a personal Engage page that turns the profile into practice. See AXIS360 DiSC Engage.
